Overall I enjoy coming in every morning to the office. I know that at the begging of my internship I was more independent and now that time has passed I have really strong connections with the student here. I will miss everyone in the office and I hope I get to come back in a couple of years to help them out again. With my project things went well by finding supporting programs but Jackie and I struggled finding housing programs. To overcome this situation I decided to call some of the housing programs online just to make sure that their program was still running. Something I would have done differently would be making the manual on Prezi just because Google Slides gave me a hard time because I had to add so many slides because when I added screenshots the picture would look blurry. Another thing that I would've done differently was creating a binder. The reason why is because I think it would've been better for the office to have a copy of all the places that our XONR8 can contact. This stands out to me because I can't wait for out XONR8 to refer to the manual Jackie and I created for them to have a successful life.

ADVICE:
For the next interns I would highly encourage them to start looking for an internship as soon as possible. I recommend them to call companies because that;s just a faster response. When I contacted CIP I struggled a little. The reason why is because I had the old mentors email and when I called the office they told me that someone new was taking care of Internship program and they gave me Rachel Cohen's email( My mentor) I also recommend them to do an internship in the environment where they think that they are going to do for their future career, I wouldn't recommend them to do it somewhere where everyone is doing their internship. I encourage them to do it somewhere where they want to be. Also they need to keep in mind that they have to do a project for the company . The reason why I say this is because what if they don't know much about technology and they go to a media art center and work on videos. I just want them to keep in mind that they'll be there for a full month. If they want to be successful then I recommend for them to focus on something they love doing and find companies that do that and have a cause to our world. My internship has made start thinking where I want to go for college in order to become a lawyer. I have been thinking to apply to SDSU and get my degree in Criminal Justice. After that I'm not sure what I have to do to become a Lawyer but I just want to make sure I take the right classes so I can graduate as soon as possible. I was also thinking of applying to San Jose State University because one of my Aunt's studied Criminal law there and she is now a judge. I have spoken to her various of time and she wants me to do my internship with her next year in the Court house of San Jose. I'm looking forward to Law for my future career.
I'm very thankful with this internship experience because now I know what to expect for my future career. I learned how to talk to inmates on the phone and family members. I now know more about each document. I've learned a lot for the past few weeks and I don't want to leave this place because I just want to keep helping those people who were wrongfully convicted. I have been in some rough situations in here. For example last year a student received some documents from a family member and those documents are super important and three days ago the cousin of the inmate called asking for an update on this case. I told him that we had some documents that were lost and he was a little mad. My job was I had to call the mother of the inmate asking if she had a copy of the documents that she brought in last year and she told me that she left the original copies here at the office. Apparently those documents were lost and the mom was really sad and it was a little hard fro me to tell her about what happened to the documents because I wasn't sure whats going to be her reaction. Right now I'm just trying to get those documents back. Other that that CIP has thought me a lot of good stuff. I enjoy filling documents while students are sitting around and working on their cases.
This internship has made me love my future career even more. Words can't explain how much I love criminal justice or just anything that has to do with law. Today I sat down in one of the students presentations and it just brought to my attention that in a couple more years that's going to be me presenting my case or just something related to Law. I was so into the presentation today and I was so happy to be part of CIP and getting to actually see how things workout in a Law School. I'm looking forward to attending Law school because I want to defend peoples rights.
I did my whole presentation on PREZI
I presented my iPol today because my mentor can't be here the 27th so my advisory can't come. I had like 3 flash card when I presented my iPol and I think I did a good job. I did practice my presentation yesterday with my sister. I made a good contribution to CIP by helping them file cases and also the manual that I created is going to be very useful for them and the exonerees. I already answered the question on my presentation. So just click on PREZI and it'll take you there (: I learned how to communicate a lot more here because in school I wouldn't ask that many questions but here its just little bit more different because in order to do something the right way you want to always check in. For example I usually ask one of the attorneys here at the office if I'm sending the right letter or if I should make a new one. I have been loving this internship and working with all the students because they are very supportive. At first it was a little hard for me to talk to them because they were busy with their case. Now that I pick up the phone some of their clients are usually calling so I have to communicate with them and let them know who on the phone. This usually happens every day. I feel like I work in a professional environment because of how much amount of people we get as clients. I learned how to work with the computer and with the phone. I enjoy leaving little notes on the students desk, just letting them know that someone called.
This past few weeks have been going by so fast! I don't want to leave my internship. I'm almost done with my project. I just need to translate the manual in Spanish. I have been working really hard because I want to make sure that this manual help the XNOR8 coming back into society. I will start making phone calls to some of the housing places, just to make sure that they are willing to help some of our people. I started out this project by just making a list of places where the XONR8 can go to then I contacted some of them. After Jackie and I did research on where the XONR8 can get free cell phones or any kinds of clothes, food and all the other stuff. We now have it all down on a power point where the XONR8 can acces to it. I will be done with the translation very soon.
I go in at 8:45 and get out at 3:45 and I feel like I've been doing my internship for years already. I know how everything works now and I do get challenged sometimes and I over come them. Unlike at school I get more challenged and it's hard to fix the challenge. For example a math problem or a test.. I get super nervous because I just think I'm not going to get it right, but here at CIP it's just a different environment. I learned how to be more patient because sometimes family members want information about the inmate but they don't have their CDC # which is a number they give them at a prison. It's really important to have that number because that's one of the fastest way to look up the person up. My work is very meaningful because once I finish high school I'll be going to Law school hopefully :) and I'll keep in mind all the stuff I learned here at CIP. I've learned so much about what happens with people's cases and every document they received. I honestly enjoy doing all this law stuff. I wish I was just done with school already. Their is still more stuff ahead of me but I know I got this.
